ASTRA Park from Sibiu is located in the “heart” of the city, being bounded by Metropolitan, George Barițiu, Union Square and John Lupas streets.
With the establishment of the Society for city beautification in 1879 to implement the plan established ten years ago that they wanted to demolish the city walls in the area.
In the ASTRA Park you find nine busts of the most important Romanian personalities in around ASTRA Association: George Bartiu, Timotei Cipariu, Badea Cartan, Octavian Goga, Andrei Saguna, Gheorghe Lazar, Andrei Muresanu, Emanuel Gojdu si Ioan Slavici. Of these the most imposing bust is the bust of Barițiu which is located right at the entrance at ASTRA Palace. It was made in 1912 and brought to the park 12 years later.
Children's clinic is on the left side of the park, being followed by the Association's Palace here in the past being the first theater from Romania. Currently there is the Astra Library, the largest library in Sibiu.
Since 2006, behind the statue of George Baritiu is placed a fountain with nine large water jets and 16 small, all lighted. In the eastern part of the park are few buildings dating from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
