The Dumbrava forest from Sibiu has an area of 960 hectares, located in the south-west side, on the road leading to the Rasinari. The forest it is crossed by the Trinkbach stream which on its cours forms three anthropogenic lakes, one in ASTRA Museum and the other two at the zoo.

Dumbrava Forest was chosen by local people a place for walks since the eighteenth century. Today it is recognized especially through the ASTRA Civilization Museum located here. The average height of the forest is 440 m, the highest peak being called Obreja, at the north-western edge of the forest. In the geological substrate has deposits of the Quaternary clay findings show.

The forest is mostly terrace with attached oak, hornbeam, wild cherry, elm or lime. Regarding the rose bushes can go on the list, “chain soft wood”, “verigariul”, “buckthorn”, “dogwood” and “hawthorn”. In the forest you can find an oak older than 400 years. Herbaceous layer is comprised of over 100 species of flowering plants.

In Dumbrava Forest inhabits squirrels, hedgehogs, pigs, mice, foxes and deer, and birds such as blackbird, bunting, large woodpecker, great tit, owl, hoopoe, finch, raven, etc..
The southern boundary of the forest are located the Heroes monument of the two World Wars and Municipal Cemetery.
