House of Arts - “Emil Sigerus” Museum of Saxon Ethnography Sibiu is known as the “Butcher” Hall. It occurs first mentioned under this name in 1370.
The building consists of ground floor and first floor, plus an appendix of access to the rear, the latter being created later. At first, in the 15th century, the building contained only the ground floor, because in the process to be built and floor consists of one room, for warehouses.
In 1765 Arts House was for a period of months auditorium for a theater actors. In the 1789 the south façade was achieved emblem of the city.
Arts House was rebuilt between 1962-1967, then restoring the original appearance of the roof, while the ground floor arcades were reopened.
Since 2002 under the administration of Astra National Museum Complex was completely redone in 2007, when he acquired the title of Emil Sigerus Museum of Saxon Ethnography.
Currently there are about 9,000 pieces, divided into three collections: port - textiles - embroidery, pottery and painted furniture. In the first collection is about half of the pieces in the museum, finding here also pieces dating from the 17th century.
