History Museum of Sibiu was founded in 1959 and is part of the National Brukental Museum. It is also known as the Altemberger, name taken after the name of the first owner. Thomas Altemberger built the location between 1470-1491. In 1545 the building was taken by the city and became City Hall, having this status until 1948. Between 1967-1984 the building was restored and was moved here the History Museum.

The museum was divided at every level you find exhibitions:
- The basement: Ancient Lapidary and Medieval Lapidary
- Ground floor: Weapons and Armor, the Romanian national movement in southern Transylvania
- On the first floor: Evolution of human communities in Southern Transylvania, Sibiu Guilds, Magistrate Sibiu in Transylvania, Glass
- On the second floor (tower house) Coins and Medals (55,000 pieces), Safe (200 pieces)

In the courtyard of the museum are some decorative figures called Hermanni, named after the legendary founder of the city. A second courtyard, which is the Garden of Martyrs, hosts works of figurative sculpture, and four brackets loggia.

Summer: Tuesday - Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday and the first Tuesday of every month is closed
Winter: Wednesday - Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday and Tuesday closed
